MARITIME CARGO - WHO ARE WE?

The principal owner of MARITIME CARGO is Captain Torbjorn (Tor) Bordevik, a native of Norway. He has been living and working in North America for the past 18 years, of which the last 12 years have been in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada.

Captain Bordevik holds an unlimited Master Mariner license, issued by the Norwegian Maritime Authority. He has served in various positions in the Norwegian Merchant Marine, and sailed the last 5 years of his sea-going career as Captain. He was employed by a major Norwegian forest product carrier in 1981,and was shortly after transferred to the United States as their Port Captain, covering the U.S. Gulf/East Coast.

In the following 18 years, Captain Bordevik continued to work with this company as Port Captain and later Assistant Operation Manager. Because of a steady increase in cargo commitments from Eastern Canada, he was transferred to Saint John, New Brunswick in late 1987 in order to enable the company to cover that area more extensively. He continued working out of Saint John in the capacities of Operation and District Manager, in addition to covering the responsibilities as Port Captain in the region, until June of 1999.

Captain Bordevik brings with him a broad background in the shipping industry, combining his years at sea with 18 years of shore-based work, primarily in the forest products, and break bulk trade.

He has worked extensively with the "TOTAL CARGO CARE" concept - starting from the producer, through inland transportation, terminal operations, stevedores and ocean carriers - with the ultimate goal of achieving a damage-free delivery of the commodities to the end users. His experience encompasses both the operational logistics of handling the various commodities, and the commercial concerns of the industry as a whole.
